Warmed By Love

Warmed By Love

An intimate gathering of family and close friends, a unity candle and a ring warming ceremony ensured this couple were warmed by love at their  wedding ceremony at The Star College, Ullenwood recently.

The ceremony commenced as the bride was   accompanied by her two young daughters up the aisle. Having been together for a number of years the couple wanted mark and celebrate the continuation of their relationship and their love rather than being a fresh start. Our ceremony included the following reading by their friend, Elaine, usually attributed to Mark Twain;

I cannot promise you a life of sunshine;
I cannot promise riches, wealth, or gold;
I cannot promise you an easy pathway
That leads away from change or growing old.
But I can promise all my heart’s devotion;
A smile to chase away your tears of sorrow;
A love that’s ever true and ever growing;
A hand to hold in yours through each tomorrow.

We lit two candles, representing the bride and groom, and these were used to light a third candle, representing the unification of them as two individuals to create a new whole. After exchanging traditional vows, the rings the couple planned to give each other were passed around all present with a request they make a wish for the future happiness of the couple. As this happened the couple had chosen 2 songs with meaning for them and guests were given a copy of the words so that they could follow these. The ritual was very poignant, with individuals closing their eyes as they held each ring to make a heartfelt wish and couples exchanging meaningful looks, perhaps recalling their own commitments to each other.

When the rings returned, blessed by the love of their friends and family, the couple exchanged them, followed by a Christian blessing from one of their friends. Finally after the ceremony was completed, we found a few quiet moments for the couple and their 2 daughters to participate in a private sand ceremony, signifying their union as a family.

It was a unique occasion, as the couple and their children were embraced by the love of those closest to them and I am sure one which all participants will remember for the rest of their lives.

I have no doubt their love and mutual regard will continue to bring joy and pleasure to them.
