As a celebrant I simply love creating and leading welcoming and naming ceremonies when a new baby arrives in our community.
Baby’s Leo’s parents and his older brother wanted to combine this with a celebration of his first birthday. Family and friends gathered at Three Parishes Hall, Grafton Flyford, Worcestershire and although the day was somewhat overcast, the rain held off long enough for us to hold our ceremony in the grounds.
As I arrived, bunting and balloons were being hung. Chairs were set out for the adults and the other children sat up close to the ceremony area on rugs. Leo’s Mum had cleverly provided a goodie bag of sweets for each of them!
As well as explaining why Leo’s parents chose his name, we celebrated the fact that he was a welcome younger brother. His parents and grandparents made solemn promises to him, as did his 4 supporting parents. This included a warm and humorous contribution with props!
We then gave Leo his life name, celebrated with a kiss from his parents and brother. Our ceremony ended with a sand ceremony, marking the love and bond that binds them together as a family.
It was a really lovely afternoon and I wish Leo and his family many happy times together for the future.
