When this lovely couple first contacted me in November 2018 about leading their wedding ceremony , little did we know what lay in store. They had originally planned to have their wedding in April 2020, but of course due to the pandemic that was not possible. Fortunately they were able to rearrange and I was delighted to play a part in their happy day earlier this week.
The ceremony was held in the atmospheric setting of Cripps Barn near Bibury. It quickly became clear that there was a fantasy theme to the day, as the Bristol String Quartet played a range of theme tunes, from Star Wars to Superman as guests gathered. Friends and family were encouraged to sit where they wished with the message “Choose a seat not a side. We’re a fellowship here”.
The bride entered to music from Lord of the Rings, accompanied by her 2 bridesmaids and her father. In the ceremony, we celebrated the fact that the couple had met at school, their friendship blossoming into love over time. Each had prepared their own vows, which were heartfelt and moving.
After exchanging rings, the couple were handfasted. They had chosen the colours Red, to symbolise love, strength and courage, Green for fertility, health and prosperity, Brown for earth, home and healing and Silver for creativity and protection. After the cord was round over their clasped hands, 4 of their friends and family were invited to tie additional knots in each of the cords.
A blessing and a kiss and the happy couple were presented to their family and friends in their married name, which is a combination of their surnames. Wishing them both every happiness for their future.
