An Easter Wedding Blessing
September 8, 2021

Yesterday (Easter Sunday) I had the privilege of leading a wedding blessing for a couple at the wonderful venue Manor By The Lake. The couple were married in an intimate ceremony in New York last year but wanted to share their happiness and celebrate with family and friends back home. They requested a ceremony that  celebrated their love and union as well as the impending birth of their first child, and that reflected the brides Indian heritage as well as English traditions.

As the guests gathered, the room was filled with a wonderful array of colour and beautiful clothing. The groom wore a sparkling, golden Indian jacket as he waited for his bride to arrive. Preceded by a young page boy and two flower girls and accompanied by music played on harp, the bride arrived, wearing a  magnificent red and golden Indian dress and shawl, accompanied by her father and her escorts. The ceremony included readings by the groom’s mother and the bride’s best friend. The couple were handfasted, using cords woven from the colours of their national flags as we blessed their union. The closed with an Indian prayer, read by the bride’s grandmother.

It was a truly wonderful occasion to be part of and I have no doubt the couple have many happy years together ahead of them.
