Over Farm, Highnam in Gloucestershire was the venue for the wedding of one lovely couple I had the honour to lead a couple of months ago. Although they had contingency plans in the event of rain, the weather was kind to us as the guests gathered in the space beautifully decorated by family and friends.
The ‘centrepiece’ for the ceremony was a lovely arch adorned with sun flowers, where the groom awaited his bride with his best man. Sunflowers are a symbol of adoration, loyalty and longevity and so a lovely addition to a ceremony area. They are also associated with happiness.
The bride entered to music, escorted by her father. During the welcome we thought about loved ones who could not be with us or who have passed away. After a reminder about just some of the things the bride and groom love about each other, there were readings by the bride’s step-mother and a friend of the couple.
Vows were exchanged, sealed by an exchange of rings, before the couple posed for photographs ‘signing the register’. After a blessing, we celebrated their union by throwing confetti as they left the area.
Wishing them both the happiest of lives together!
