Wedding & Partnerships

Beautiful & personal ceremonies are the heart of special weddings and handfastings

Are you looking for a ceremony that is different to the traditional choice between either a wedding in a religious building or one delivered by a registrar limited by legal constraints? Are you are thinking of something fairly traditional or a more modern approach?  Do you want to hold your wedding or handfasting in a beautiful place that captures the spirit of the love you have for each other and the commitment you are making? Do you want to be able to include some religious content or would you prefer an entirely secular ceremony? Perhaps you want to include special rituals, such as a Loving Cup or Sand Ceremony.

By separating the legal marriage process from your main wedding ceremony and celebration, you can have your ceremony exactly where and how you want it. As an independent civil celebrant, I can offer guidance and advice, help you shape your ideas, and create and deliver a ceremony on the day that fulfils your dreams and expectations.

I can advise on the legal position of civil ceremonies and can provide suggestions about different rituals and ceremonies you may wish to consider.

Renewal of Vows

There are lots of reasons couples choose to renew their wedding vows. For some it may be a way to mark a special anniversary. Others may simply want to celebrate their continuing love. It may even be to achieve healing after a difficult time.

Whatever the reason, renewing wedding vows is a beautiful way for a couple to celebrate their love for one other. It could be an intimate occasion, perhaps just the couple themselves present, maybe a much grander event, offering an opportunity for a couple to celebrate their love with family and friends.

Handfastings

Historically a term for “betrothal” or “wedding”, Handfastings are customary in Neopagan traditions, although they are becoming increasingly popular with couples seeking a different and meaningful way to mark their union. There is an emphasis upon nature and the four elements – earth, water, air and fire. Hence ceremonies usually take place outdoors, often in a place of spiritual significance or where the beauty of nature is evident. Vows taken may be for “a year and a day,” “a lifetime”, “for all of eternity” or “for as long as love shall last.” Basic elements include the tying of hands (the Handfasting, sometimes known as the Knot Ceremony) and often jumping the broomstick.

Blessings

If you have already made arrangements to have a registrar-led ceremony but want to add a more personal element, or perhaps married abroad and wish to celebrate the occasion with family and friends back home, a blessing or mini-ceremony offers a beautiful and meaningful way to mark your union. Blessings can have religious content or be entirely non-religious.

Special Ceremonies & Rituals

There are many special ceremonies and rituals, ancient and modern that can be included in a wedding ceremony to make it personal and meaningful. Most people are familiar with the ritual of exchanging rings, but there are a number of other traditions that offer alternative or additional ways to mark the occasion. Some offer a means to include children or other important family members or friends in the ceremony itself.
